They did a dark lager? <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

As far as I recall it wasn't actually dark, they just called it that. Maybe it was a little amber. It seems so long ago!

But are these considered worthy of being a lost Irish beer? <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

I miss Smithwicks Barley wine great to mix with stout and have a black and tan.

Thanks Adeptus, that really brought me back. Especially the superscript final S on "James's". The only place I ever saw them was The Temple Bar.

Rebel, it's a real shame Smithwick's Barley Wine is gone, mostly because I never got to taste it. In the pub where I used to work we kept a stock that was only ever drunk by one punter, an old man who would come in and have one on his way home from Saturday evening Mass.

Was Smithwick's Barley Wine a real barley wine with respect to ABV or was it a barley wine in the sense that Greene King IPA is an IPA?
