I don't have any handy - would supermarket yeast be acceptable, or is brewer's yeast specially adapted for brewing? Guys- thanks for all the help and advice too, by the way.

There's a good chance the yeast is dead if the water was that hot. You'll have to use brewer's yeast to kick start it. Baker's yeast is unsuitable, though it was used in the early days of homebrewing with seriously iffy results, I would imagine.

Where abouts are you located?

No you need brewers yeast, where are you living? i'm sure if anybody close t you reads this they'll be happy to chuck you a pack of yeast

The bread yeast you can get in a supermarket will ferment the wort but the results will be rough and i'm sure that's not what you want from your first brew <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

Co. Kildare. There might be a health food shop near the office that'll sell Brewers Yeast that I can pick up tomorrow!

Not a good start to the brewery - Hydrometer and Yeast killed in one day!

You're in a bind if the fermentation doesn't kick off because the wort will spoil soon, but you really don't want to bother with baker's yeast, it's just not suitable.

If you can get to my place of work in Dublin city centre tonight I'll give you a packet of yeast which should take care of things.
