Party Ale: As the "front page" and the forum are really separate sites, the search on the front page searches articles only, as you mentioned, and the tool pointed out to you above is just for the forum.
The search on this version of the forum works, and at least you can filter by forum, but it is definitely a bit crap in how it displays the results. The new one is a lot better as it displays extracts from the post so you have better context to see what fits your query.
I won't be doing any tweaks to ICB as it'll be gone by July.
