Went back to Redmonds there on Monday to pick up something to have in the house. Got some Sam Adams lager, disappointed to say it's a bit off. I checked the labels after I got the funny taste off it. Best before Sept 08 <!-- s:-( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":-(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:-( -->
Would have thought it was a poor beer if I hadn't been used to lovely fresh bottles from a little hotdog bar beside my house in Spain.

I'll be checking the dates from now on and calling them up on it.

You got lucky. Though if you want nothing fancier than Boston Lager, Superquinn across the street is a better, cheaper bet.

And Redmond's is far from the worst offender on the full-price expired beer front.

I'm not acting as a spokesman for the offies but there are some who will routinely mark down expiring beers in advance and publicise the fact to shift the stock (well I know of one at least).

I think I mentioned before the time I took home a bottle of St Peter's Cream Stout from Carvill's on Camden Street, found it was fit for a museum, brought it back and when they exchanged it the geriatric bottle went straight back on the shelf. It's probably still there. Telling war stories.

Good to know, cheers.

I'm disappointed, but I'll still be back to Redmonds just for the selection.

Shame the market doesn't keep the offos on their toes - a combination of low demand and poor stock control I suppose.

I've heard good things about a northside off licence called McHugh's, but it's a bit far afield for me.

I've found the one in Kilbarrack to have a better selection than the Malahide Road branch. I'd say you can save yourself the trip if it's a bit of a hike - they don't tend to have anything you can't get in Redmonds.
