I was just curious about prices for irish craft beer and weather shops selling the stuff can charge what they want.
I expect to pay anywhere between 2.50 to 3.50 for a pint bottle which is expensive as it is but yesterday i went to my local spar and noticed they were selling oharas pale ale and galway hooker amongst others for 4.20 or 4.30 per bottle. I think this is bad for the craft brewers, who in there right mind would pay that much!?!
No hope getting people to try craft beer when they can get 2 or 3 cans of bud/heineken for the price of one craft beer.
Ill pay for a good quality beer but i have my limits!
Im not blaming the brewers at all, i think this high pricing is potentially damaging to them, non craft beer drinkers are tough enough to convert as it is. 4.30 for a bottle would put anyone off trying it.
The shop in question stocks brooklyn beers(usa) and sells them for under 3e for 330ml size. The irish non imported bottles of oharas pale ale and galway hooker are between 4.20-4.30 for 500ml. They got the irish beers in only very recently well after the budget I think there either misinformed about the price or chancing here arms.
I would ask the manager if that price is right. Literally go up him with a bottle of Hooker, ask if he is really charging €4.30 for it and if he says yes, raise and eyebrow, put it back and leave.
