In terms of quality, absolutely but it certainly doesn't seem like a stout to me. Porter is one of my favourite styles with the Fullers London Porter the best I've tasted (But I'm always on the look out for the perfect one)

The MM one doesn't have the dryness or bitterness of a stout. It's fuller bodied and chocolate like. The brewer uses black malt along with chocolate malt which I think makes the difference. Porters can be made using chocolate malt alone but the black malt makes it for me. Fullers use brown malt also which could really make the difference.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you on how MM Porter differs from typical Irish stouts in terms of taste and texture (I'm sure you're right on the ingredients too).

Can we leave it at "one of Ireland's best black beers"? <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Did you ever taste my porter Thom? I made it with Chocolate, Crystal and Black Malt. I have one bottle left and I might be persuaded to split it with you, if we can arrange to meet.

I recall you mentioning a porter alright. I haven't tasted it and would love to try it, but your last bottle? I'd feel like a criminal taking half it off you. Perhaps we could work something out. I'll have a mild ale ready in a while. If it's good I'll give you a few bottles.

I forgot to mention crystal malt when babbling about porter earlier. A good dose of crystal is important to get the chewy full sensation from a good porter. I plan to brew over the next bank holiday and it'll have a good measure of crystal in it.

I certainly agree with that. We could do with a few more like it.

I'd rather sare it with someone I can talk to about it than just drink it myself.

I'd love to try your mild. I did one myself a while back and enjoyed it a lot.
