Cool. I think I might have seen it before but it was back in my pre-brewing days so I didn't really have a clue. I printed off a copy to stick into my Brew Log Folder.

I'm sure there's plenty of useful information here, but as a reflection of beer in the real world, it's nonsense. Extra Special Bitter is [i:3fxwkic3]one beer[/i:3fxwkic3], not a style. Likewise Foreign Extra Stout. Historically, "Mild" is what "English Brown Ale" is called on draught.

"Robust Porter", "Bohemian Pilsner" -- these are terms invented by the BJCP for their own self-referential classification system.

I think the BJCP style guides are useful, mostly because there seems to be little else out there that attempts to analyse the characteristics of groupings of similar beers. Sure they're not historically accurate and some of the categorisations are wrong and some have simply been invented but I don't subscribe to the notion that they're evil - they're an imperfect attempt to document styles, they are not rules to live by.
