Hi All,
I’d just like to give you all a heads up about a project I’m working on at the moment. Before I joined Rye River my intention was to start my own brewing project and company. I’d been working on ‘gypsy’ projects in this capacity with Otterbank and Brewtonic when Rye River asked me to join the team there. I had stated that my intention was to establish my own brewery within a year. Not having issue with this, and actually being incredibly supportive of the idea I must say, I took the honour of working as a member of our brewing team and later found myself leading the team here.
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the professional challenges of building the Rye River brewery though moves and constant expansion and as a result I’ve decided to do my own stuff as a side project of sorts. I’ll be operating a little company separate and independent from the guys here with their complete blessing as well as receiving mentoring in all things related to the business side of things. My boss Alan is helping out and is a partner in the project, and we’re having fun with the idea that I’m his boss now as well. I’ll also remain head brewer here as well and juggle both things.
So I’m going to put out my beers under the name ‘Whiplash’. It’s my own company from which I contract the beers from other breweries depending on availability in capacity, and by ‘contracting’ I mean turning up and brewing the beers on different kits where I’m welcome. It’s also another excuse to visit other brewer friends and spend the day just brewing together. Styles will vary, batches will be generally one off’s and small (20HL's at the moment), packaging formats will suit the style of beer and it’ll get fairly geeky at times so I’ll need support from beer geeks if the beer deserves it to try push boundaries in the Irish market a bit. Some independent off licences are already on board to help stock the beers and will hopefully be understanding if they run out. The beers will be done batch to batch, project to project and hopefully sold partly in the locality of where they’re brewed.
So I’m looking forward to what you all think of them and really welcome reviews whether they’re on your great blogs, Ratebeer, Untappd or BeerAdvocate profiles or even on your Facebook and Twitter pages. If you’ve ideas on where I should stock close to you or even just want to discuss what’s being planned please hit me up on Twitter or Facebook. The website is whiplashbeer.com
Cheers,
Alex
