Guinness Surger 18 years 10 months ago #1

Has anyone else heard of Guinness Surger? It's a device promising to recreate the Perfect Pint in the comfort of your own home.

By placing a pint of Guinness on this smallish device and pressing the button, ultra sonic waves penetrate the drink from below. This creates a flurry of commotion within the glass and resembles a freshly poured Guinness in your local.

It is only available in Britain at the moment, which is where I picked one up. I got mine in Tescos, and a supermarket lable stated that it, and the special Surger cans, were being discontinued. Perhaps its a load of rubbish.

I'm going to give it a try this weekend and will post my verdict. I do like a nice Guinness, so I will be quite strict <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

Anyway, see the Surger in action on youtube:

They tested this type of guinness out about a year and a half ago around Ireland. A selection of the guinness drinking members of the public were given them, while the surger cans were available in a few off licences around Ireland. It was never going to be as good as a freshly poured pint from the tap but supposedly it was the best recreation so far.

I have seen or heard of it since until now. I know they tested it out in China before Ireland and if i can remmember correctly it went down well there too. Hopfully with it popping up in the UK its going to become available soon here too.

dunno if it's psychological or not, but I just don't like drinks that come from a can, i reckon they always taste worse than the equivalent brand from a bottle. anyone else think the same??

and to stay on topic, never heard of the surger. looks like a cool gizmo, but i'm not convinced, and obviously neither were the rest of the public or it'd still be around.

Anyone remember the special pint-pouring machine they demo'd for holding the glass at the right angle and spinning it slowly as it was poured? (or did I make that one up??)

I prefer the pint bottle if you can get them, the old can are also good. I find that the nitrogen smoothes out its nice roasty character.

Stop Press. Guinness in peddling gimmick shocker.

If I want to drink Guinness at home it's not to see the 'amazing' settling in action.

Agree 100%. The nitro just kills some of the taste.
