Those results are pretty much what I'd expected. I'd guess a lot of people on this forum would judge Guinness by its 'macroness' (& its reputation for reducing market diversity in Ireland) rather than its taste. Im not saying that this is a bad thing, just that those views will affect your views on the taste)
I'd agree with Eoin that it's not that bad a beer - personally I think it compares very flavourably to the ice-cold bland pee-coloured stuff which makes up the majority of this islands beer consumption.

Good points Party_Ale my shock at the results might say more about me than about Guinness.

Would anyone in Cork be interested in running something similar? Where could it be held[/url:37hkcxci]?

I'd love to try hold one , But I don't think there's a single pub in Cork with all the stouts , although Dave in the abbots would probably have the O Haras , Murphy's and maybe Shandon Stout, and definitely the likeliest to be sound enough for it .

I of course would not be able to partake in the tasting , the risk of me dying from sipping a swallow of Guinness would be too great. I couldn't take the chance.

Most standard bars in Cork would have the big three : - Guinness, Murphys and Beamish , but it might be hard to get in the extras . One of Benni McCabes pubs might do it , they stock some Franciscan Well beer ,

On a side note , Murphy's is only now beginning to get Beamish right , and I've only been able to drink it in a few Bars that traditionally would have had amazing pints of it , and only in the last few weeks , Up to now it's tasted like Peat water . It's still not right but it's getting to be a close approximation .

And I wouldn't hold out much hope for any website or Email addresses for Beamish . I don't think Heineken will be that interested in it . Entrenchment in Cork will ensure it's always made and sold (I hope) but I wouldn't expect them to be pushing it anywhere.

:Edit I just realised that OnTap.ie carry all the stouts that are available in Cork , I'll have to check with them , as they might be on for something like this ,

No
Seriously I'm allergic to Guinness ,

Last time I attempted I got two swallows in before spending ten minutes sweating and yakking with my throat constricting ,

I was very afraid of losing consciousness from lack of air.
Won't be risking it again.

Quite happy to do any other tasting and drink anything once , But not Guinness
