Franziskaner Weissbier ROYAL 14 years 6 months ago #1

I tried Franziskaner's (new?) "Weissbier Royal" which the label calls a "jahrgangsweissbier". It comes in a fancy foil-topped bottle that generally looks just like the regular Franziskaner.

It's like halfway in between a normal weissbier and a kristalweiss; it's only a slightly bit cloudy and is more mild in flavor and mouth feel than Franziskaner. It's like Fransizkaner wanted a beer with less flavor that was more like Erdinger. Royally boring.

I give it a very strong, "MEH" rating. (If there's anything else worth drinking, drink something else; not because it's bad, just because it's so boring.)

Yep, if you really like your weiss beers with lots of the banana flavors, Franziskaner and/or "Konig Ludwig", one of the German national breweries, are at the top of my list.

I prefer Konig Ludwig a little, though; just a personal preference. Konig Ludwig and Ayinger's normal hefeweizen are probably my two favorite "normal" German hefeweizens; Schneider weiss if I want something a bit "spicer" tasting.
