Met Charles who has just started the Ards Brewery yesterday in Belfast. He's currently brewing on a 100L kit, which meant the cask of stout he provided for the Belfast festival was an entire batch. It's good stuff: reminded me a lot of Black Rock.

Interestingly, he doesn't have to have a bond in place as long as he pays his excise duty by direct debit. It's such a modern common-sense way to do it, I think. I wonder is there any chance the Revenue Commissioners down here would allow that?

It would be an excellent move if we could get the revenue to allow that .

It would really open up possiblilities for competitions and the like , as well as guest brews in craft beer bars ....

Hmmm. 9 gallons UK = 40.9L so that's just under 60L of the batch missing. Quality control I suppose.

That would make a lot of sense. I wouldn't hold my breath.

That's a really good idea.

Wow, that would make it SOO much easier to start a brewery here.

Thornbridge had to get a special dispensation to bring 9s to the GBBF a couple of years ago, and it didn't work, and it won't happen again, apparently.
