Beer in Belfast. 13 years 3 weeks ago #1

We're in Belfast for the weekend and it looks like I'll be updating the directory somewhat. Two restaurants to go in and, sadly, two pubs to be pulled.

Hopelhammer (Sp?) Seems to be taking off here. I have encountered it on tap twice and the John Hewet as one window covered in a giant semi-transparent advert for it, of the kind O have only ever seen Heineken doing.

Belfast probably has heaps of places not in the directory. I'll maybe see if I can get one of my Belfast friends to fill places in.

Though like yourself I don't think I've seen it done by any other companies.

The Crown is a Nicholson's pub now, with the expected stress on cask.
And a new cocktail bar called Love and Death Inc. is contract-brewing a house ale.

Hot tips from beersiveknown.

I was in the Crown recently. 5 ales on cask the rest are the usual suspects. the house ale was by St.Austells, Proper Job? They also had Belfast Ale. Well worth a visit, although our evening was ruined by a trio of musicians belring out the usual Oirish folk songs. No need for this "entertainment".

Didn't get here but it is CAMRA recommended. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.camrani.org.uk/">www.camrani.org.uk/

St Austell's Proper Job in Belfast????

Please tell me you're not pulling my leg - that's one seriously nice beer. The only other pint I've ever had of it was last year in Cornwall - in the St.Austell brewery.

Have to make my way round there to check it out <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
