it can be in general, but did you try the crown bar or John Hewitt for example?

the crown bar is a nice spot and the decorating is beutyfull on the outside and inside. worth visiting just for that alone

i orderd a ploughmans sandwich there before and got enough thin sliced ham to give a dog heart failure. not the best but lots of it <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

Cayenne has never put a foot wrong over several years of visits.

The John Hewitt often has left field choices like draught Kostritzer, and good music at night.

Skip The Kitchen.

The Crown is very pretty but often has ignorant service and gets packed with territorial regulars after 5pm - not a prayer of getting a snug. Hit it during the day.

Incidentally, while Belfast is marginal at best for craft beer, it's tops for cocktails - try The Apartment or The Merchant Hotel.

I'll add my two pen'nerth:

Garrick near city hall not bad for bottled beer, nothing amazing but a decent selection.

Another decent food and beer place is La Boca, also near city hall. South American food and a few decent beers, run by the guy who started everything off in the John Hewitt beer-wise. Fairly close to your hotel I'd say.

Other than that it's the John Hewitt, Crown, Bittles, Kitchen.

A few other great pubs worth a visit, but not for the beer selection would be Morning Star, Whites and Kelly's Cellars.

Have fun, great city!
