Innis and Gunn oak aged beer 18 years 2 days ago #1

I have often seen the above beer over past few years in the UK and finally picked up two bottles on a visit to the north a couple of months ago.

Sampled same last night, The bottle says this honey-hued beer is matured in oak barrels for 30 days and then matured for further 47 days before bottling. A very nice mix of beer, oak, honey and whiskey flavours (from the oak barrels of course!). Very nice interestinmg beer. Would happily have it again. 6.6% alc so a reasonably strong beer as well.

Got a 330 ml bottle but I believe it is also available in 750 ml bottle which i think si too big if not shared. Definitely an interesting beer I thought and would happily have it again. Also saw good reviews for it on BeerAdvocate.

I found it really tough going. Not bad in small doses, though.

The brand owners don't like people knowing where it's made. The "Innes & Gunn Brewing Company, Edinburgh" don't make any beer, and this one isn't made in Edinburgh at all, but in Dunbar by Belhaven. Not that that affects the flavour, but this sort of sleight-of-hand marketing always bugs me.

TBN - I knew you would get to the root of where it cmae from!!!! As you say the website is short on real info.

Must say I liked the beer and will try it again sometime. Never really had a beer like it before!

I never really took to the Innis & Gunn's Oak Aged. I think I have an inbred mistrust of beer sold in clear glass bottles.

Has anyone tried the 1488 Whisky Ale currently in some offies? I haven't sample it yet, mostly because I'm not convinced by this whole whisky beer thing. This is based purely on the fact that I didn't take to Innis & Gunn either.

My brain isn't at full capacity at the moment, so I can't remember the name of the Imperial Stout that was aged in whisky casks that I had round in BeerNut's house a few months ago. It was actually bloody lovely, but heavy going.

Ah, hold on, Brewdog.... Paradox[/url:3hzih26s], that's the one. Wouldn't mind giving it a go again.
