I don't think that's even remotely close to the important issue.
The issue is that a huge industrial brewer is confusing consumers and eroding the value of the terms "craft brewers/craft beers/craft brewed".

"Irish Craft Beer" or "Craft Brewed" have been deemed non-trademarkable. (TBN tried already and the app was rejected.)
The government has ruled that this is a term that anyone can use, unfortunately.

And it's perfectly possible to regulate this without resorting to legally binding methods like trademarking. All you need is a badge that consumers will recognise, and recognise the absence of.
Why not start making noise with the breweries about carrying Beoir logos then? Set up a charter and and application system for breweries and limit it to the terms you were seeking for the trademarking.
