My opinion as well as some others, if you want to draw non beer geeks to this, a tenner in and 2.50 a half is expensive, for an event to promote Irish craft beer.
In the open market pay your price[/quote:3sg7ae8t]

No point in setting false expectations. Get them interested in €3 pints and they'll resent paying €3 for a bottle in the off license. The festival needs to be promoted on the basis of high quality, Irish product, not price.[/quote:3sg7ae8t]
Yet again us Irish are doing it again... high quality, Irish OVER PRICED product...
You just Don,t get it...
It costs 25-30 euro for a homebrewer, (cheaper again for micro brewer) give or take to produce 92 half pints...
That's €230 ... €200 profit... before expences...
I'm all for a profit margin and a "quality" "Irish " product but that's just ridiculous![/quote:3sg7ae8t]
Let's get real here, you're comparing a hobby with a business. You can knock up a pasta dish for a less than a euro - think you'll get it in a restaurant for that price? Last I heard there weren't any Irish craft brewers driving around in bentleys. Sorry if this sounds harsh but if you think opening a craft brewery in this country is a fastpath to untold riches you should give it a go and see if your assumptions stand up.

The thing about €5 a pint in the RDS is it might be giving the wrong impression about the average cost of Irish Craft Beer.

I can get a pint of Galway Hooker in my local for €3.80 (€2.59 in the offy), and a pint of Dark Arts for €3.50, and admission is free.

You only get one chance to make a first impression and €5 might be enough to put people off. I think untold good would be done if it was priced at €4 a pint.

Or maybe just don't do pints at all if the idea is to encourage people to try lots of different beers. There's still a bullshit macho thing in this country about drinking a half pint so taking away the option of a pint would save the blushes of "Average Joe".

I dunno. They have to pay over the odds and have to drink half pints [i:3kmmxd8q]aswell[/i:3kmmxd8q]...

(Half pints makes sense if you want to get in as wide a variety of beer as you can, but I see it as one step at a time when it comes to educating Average Joe)

The point I was trying to make again, simply stated with a few more facts.
I am well aware of all aspects of revenue and running my own business and have been doing so for longer than any of the Irish micro's.
I am not trying to bash them or this event in anyway.
I support them, in both the off licence and pub whenever I get the chance and promote their beer whenever I can.

However in my opinion (and that all it is, we all have them) when you run an event to promote your business, it is better to give people the preception that you're offering them value at this promotinal event.
I may be wrong in this, but I do belive I'm not

My worry is that if you try to educate joe public by making the beer cheap, is that they will then equate it with Bavaria/Dutch Gold.
